our Nana

Sewing... 003
We introduced y'all to our Nana quite awhile back, so you all probably remember her well.  We got to see her earlier this spring.  Nana is just the sweetest thing!  Of course, her famous dishcloths are sold through our website and Etsy shop

Nana is still crocheting plenty!  Speaking of that, we just got a box brimming with 80 of her dishcloths yesterday…

Happy 22nd Birthday to our Apphia!!

There are no words to express how very thankful we are to The Lord for creating Apphia, and for putting her into our family.  She's such a blessing to each of us.  As the oldest girl, Apphia is the one we all look up to naturally.  We couldn't have asked for a better example.  She is our confidant, true friend (and partner-in-crime), companion, daughter, sister.  May The Lord bless you, Apphia dear, with many more birthdays.

We'll love you forever, Apphia Jade!  Happy thoughts, darling~

Many x's and o's~  Mommy, Achaia, Abigail, & Abiah

PS Let's all wish her a happy birthday, shall we?

spring + voile= one beautiful day

Voile sissies 060
A couple weeks ago Abiah (the best photographer a girl ever had!) grabbed Abigail and Achaia for a fun, springy photo shoot.  It also proved a good time to enjoy the lovely weather!  So… here's a peek while we're all thinking about a beautiful day….

Back again soon, Lord willing!

pillowcase fun!

Hello again. Here's the little tutorial for your own patched pillowcase! It's very simple…

First thing… cut a piece of fabric 31 inches long. (Of course your fabric is the standard 45 inches wide.)

Now. Open your piece of fabric up all the way. And don't forget your scraps! (Rather large pieces, we might add!)

We used a Yo-yo template to make our circles. If a strip happens to catch your fancy, use it!

Pillowcase fun! 005
With your main piece of fabric fully opened, start by laying out different sized circles and strips in a manner that's pleasing to you.

Pillowcase fun! 007
Using a zig-zag stitch, stitch along the sides of your circles, strips or squares.

Now that you've sewn all your lovelies down, stand back and admire your work!

Fold it in half, right sides together, once more. Stitch down one short side and the only long side.

Clip corners. Then do a small hem.

Turn right side out. YOUR PILLOWCASE IS DONE!!

We'll try to be back soon. If you like this little tutorial, perhaps you'd like this one as well! Has Spring been keeping you all busy? It has us!

Mmmmm…

Everything! 001
This is what we're eating right now.  It's a favorite of ours.  Serve it with chips or tortillas, as a main dish or as a side, all year round.  Yes, it's that good…

Texan Taco Dip!

1- 16 oz. can of refried beans

2 large avocados (or three medium ones)

2 Tbsp. lemon juice

1/4 tsp. pepper

1 1/4 cups sour cream

2 Tbsp. taco seasoning (or one package — but homemade is really better)

2 tomatoes, chopped (or more, if you like tomatoes)

1/3 cup sliced black olives (we like to dice ours up a bit)

16 oz. shredded cheddar or Mexican-blend cheese

tortilla chips & warm tortillas

Spread your refried beans onto an extra large plate or platter.  Mash avocados in a separate bowl, until relatively smooth (we like to use our handy-dandy little hand mixer for this job).  Add lemon juice and pepper to avocado — mix thoroughly.  Spread over refried beans.  Combine sour cream and taco seasoning; spread over avocado mixture.  Top with tomatoes and olives (throw in some onions, too, if you like).  Sprinkle with cheese.  Serve with chips and/or warm tortillas.  Enjoy!

Do any of you have a quick summer-y recipe to share?  Please do!

sometimes… I’m inspired

Spring is really inspiring to me! (Me, being Abigail.) First. It inspires me to make a rain hat to match my rain coat. I love it! Besides…. who can go on a walk when it's raining outside without a rain hat too? (Thanks to Nan for sending me a hat pattern I could play with!)

Then my aunt (who happens to have very cute toenails… remember?) inspired me by sending us a clipping from a magazine… Of course, it doesn't look quite like it looked in the magazine clipping. But that's part of the fun of it! (And it definately causes beautiful sleep!) So I made this:

Inspirations 012

It's very easy… would anyone like some instructions?

Bags. I'm bag crazy, (like all my other sisters! Thanks Mommy!) So I came up with this… perfect tag-along, I thought! I named it Jenny, after two very special ladies.

Inspirations 001

I'd better go now! Tell me this: what does Spring inspire you to do?
